Vinod Gupta School of Management, IIT Kharagpur is the first and the largest B-School among the IIT fraternity. Bulls Eye

Online Stock Trading Competition

Overview

As "The Man Who Broke the Bank of England”, George Soros put forward, we invite you to Bull’s Eye, the online stock trading competition of our annual business festival Purvodaya, to test your acumen in this respect.

Participants would be provided a virtual stock trading platform and they have to try to increase the portfolio value as much as possible. The method would be Day Trading. Five teams with the highest portfolio value after the end of the trading period will have to submit their trading ideas and strategies in the form of power point presentation which will be evaluated by an esteemed panel of judges at IIT Kharagpur.

So Scalpers or Momentum Traders, get ready for some action!


Rules

Round-1

    1.   Participation is open to all B-School students.
    2.   Each team should comprise 2 participants from the same B-School.
    3.   No candidate can be a part of multiple teams. If identified, all the teams he/she is part of will be disqualified.
    4.   Registration for Bull’s Eye starts from 11th January, 2016.
    5.   Teams can trade from 18th January to 22th January.
    6.   Trading will be done on ICICI Direct platform.
    7.   The trading rationale should be submitted in Power Point Presentation, not exceeding 15 slides (including the cover
          page).
    8.   The Cover Page of the presentation should have the name of the team, Institute, names of the members, mail ids and
          contact numbers.
    9.   Presentations should be mailed to bullseye.purvodaya@gmail.com with the naming convention:
          Bull’s Eye_<Institute Name>_<Team Name> by 25th January 2016, 11:59:59 PM.
    10.   Presentation should be inclusive of, but not limited to, rationale behind selecting the stock.
    11.   Result for the first round will be declared on 27th January 2016. Five teams will be selected based on
            a) value of the portfolio
            b) the quality of the analysis and research done


Round-2

    1.   Shortlisted teams will be required to present their analysis in front of the panel of esteemed judges at IIT Kharagpur.
    2.   Each team will be given a slot of 15 minutes for their presentation.
    3.   PFinal round will be held between 5th February to 7th February. Exact dates will be intimated later.

Are you game?

Event Description

Guesstimates is an online event to find the best consulting minds. A test for you to make a rough estimate to the given problem without complete information. The solution could be a rough approximation or an educated guess for which no better information would be available. The challenge is to use the best possible approach to get closer to a reasonable solution. The whole episode tests your logical, analytical, and interpretation skills. You are free to make use of any relevant data with substantial proof of validity. So get ready to use your grey cells!


Objective

Analyse the given problem and make an educated guess using any relevant data, and come to a reasonable solution.


Deliverable

Participants need to upload their solutions (Restricted to two pages word document) in their google drives and send the link through the google form which is floated on the event days. The solution should describe their approach to solving the problem, and an approximate answer to the question asked.


RULES

    a. Format

        1. Three day event: 31st January, 6th February, 7th February 2016
        2. One Guesstimate per day @ 10 pm (1 hour window to submit the link to the solution through Google form)
        3. Guesstimate problem and Google form link will be posted on Consulting Club, VGSOM, @ 10 pm.

Leader’s Challenge is the Flagship event of the Marketing and Advertising Club of VGSoM, designed to test the budding leader within you. It shall test your acumen of marketing and your skill of solving real-world problems. Get into the shoes of a CXO and present a ground-breaking solution.

Overview

The vision of Saamanjasya is to propagate a culture of harmonizing the youth towards societal problems. No event of this proportion and intention will be successful without providing solutions to the problems that are faced by the society and also by the people who are working for its upliftment. To serve this motive, Saamanjasya is organizing, as part of Purvodaya 2015, an event called "PARISHRAM". This event is aimed at involving the students from various parts of the country to provide original and practical solutions to issues faced by NGOs and Rural Development issues . The idea is to involve the best minds of the country to come up with workable solutions to these problems.

The event will consist of two phases which will test not only the analytical skills of the participants but also their dedication towards the social cause.


Rules

    1. Current B-school students are eligible to participate in this event
    2. Each team can have two members
    3. No person can be part of more than one team
    4. A Quiz followed by a Case Study Challenge, both would be elimination rounds
    5. The top 6 teams from the Case Study Challenge would present their cases here at IIT Kharagpur on the 7th of February’ as
        a part of Purvodaya 2016

Format

The First Milestone

    •   There would be a Quiz of 15-20 minutes duration
    •   The exact time and duration of which will be communicated in due course
    •   The questions would have single correct answer and no negative marking
    •   In case of a tie, the deciding factor would be ‘best time of completion’
    •   Top 20 teams will move to the next round

The Second Milestone

    •   A Case study will be presented to all the qualifying teams
    •   The format of submission would be Power Point Presentation
    •   The PPT should have minimum of 10 and maximum of 15 slides
    •   Content font size 12 in Calibri
    •   The Cover Page of the solution should have the name of the team, Institute, names of the members, course of study, mail
        ids and contact numbers
    •   Exhibit(s), if any, should be provided in a word document along with the PPT
    •   Assumptions, if any should be clearly mentioned
    •   The entries should have the following naming convention: Parishram_ColegeName_TeamName
        (Example: Parishram_VGSoM_TwoGoodMen. In case the team decides to submit exhibits along with, it may be done by
        zipping the case solution and the doc together and naming the zip file using the same naming convention)
    •   Top 6 teams will be selected based on the concept, feasibility, originality and research done on the case. A waiting list of
        three (4) teams will also be declared
    •   The shortlisted teams will be intimated via mails and they will have to send their acceptance via email within 24 hours,
        failing which the waitlisted teams will be invited in order of their rank

3 on 3 Parliamentary Debate

Event Description

This event is a 3 on 3 debate with two sides, the Government and the Opposition, while the speakers take their titles from those of their parliamentary equivalents (such as the opening Government speaker, called the Prime Minister). The event will test not only test the oratory skills of the participants but also their ability to intelligently manoeuvre through the flow of the event.


Rules

    1.   The event is open to all- undergraduates, postgraduates from any academic institution.
    2.   This is an on-campus event.
    3.   This is a team event and a team should strictly consist of 3 members and all the members should belong to the same
          institute.
    4.   There can be multiple teams from the same institute.
    5.   A person can be a part of only one team, if he/she is later found to be a part of multiple teams then all the team of which
          he/she is a part will be disqualified.
    6.   The decision of the judges is final and binding.


Format

All speakers are expected to answer a Point of Information/ Speech (POIs) to their opponents to maintain the relevance to their topics. Once the motions are proposed, the Leader of the government takes the floor, followed by the leader of the opposition, followed by their deputies and finally the Whips who sum up the contention alternatively. Post these 6 speeches, a round of reply speeches follow. Opposition followed by government this time, with 4 minutes, as opposed to the regular 7 minutes. These speeches see no POIs.

              advantage and the resources and finances required to execute the idea.

        5.   All entries must be mailed to srijan2016.purvodaya@gmail.com. The subject line for this e-mail must be:
              "Srijan_Round1_Team Name".
        6.   Plagiarism in any form will lead to disqualification.


    Round 2: In Campus

        1.   After the first round of submission, 5 best entries will be selected in terms of originality and viability of the business
              plans.
        2.   The selected teams will be assigned mentors for their B-Plans who will guide them for 7 days to streamline their ideas.
              The participants are required to make optimum utilization of the mentoring process so as to create an appropriately
              refined B-Plan.
        3.   The teams will then have to be present their ideas in front of jury at VGSOM, IIT Kharagpur on 7th of Feb, 2016
              (tentative).
        4.   Top 2 teams will then be selected who will be judged in terms of innovativeness in their ideas, and the business
              acumen and holistic vision in their business plans.
        5.   Travel and stay will be provided to teams qualifying for campus round.

Event will be divided in 2 rounds:

Round 1 : It will be quiz round which will be conducted in duration of 4 days. Each day we will launching a 15 mins quiz for a particular domain. The cumulative score of all 4 quizzes will be evaluated for selecting the finalists.

Round 2 : The chosen team from Round 1 will be given a case study and they need to think from perspective of all 4 domains. They need to present the case to judges. Further details shall be mailed to the finalists.
